Summer Music Vancouver 2018
Summer Music Vancouver (SMV) is Music In The Morning's downtown summer festival, serving an exciting gap in classical arts programming in the city. With mainstage concerts at the beautiful Christ Church Cathedral and daily concerts at Robson Square, SMV offers a different lens through which Vancouverites and tourists can experience the city. With our concert programming, sight-reading parties, a chamber music training institute, and free public performances enjoyed alongside a bevy of food trucks, there's always something happening at this festival!
This year, we are excited to continue the tradition of bringing together some of our greatest chamber music luminaries in new musical conversations: there's a great energy in having old musical friends playing music they know and love -- together for the first time.
Sweeping renditions of Franck and Dvorak await our audiences. The wit, humour, and startling beauty of Haydn may surprise you. SMV will explore boundaries of both the sublime and visceral, classical and jazz, written and improvised music. Embodying the spirit of this summer's programming, Stephen Prutsman's hilarious and deeply touching music composed to a screening of Buster Keaton's legendary Sherlock Jr. rounds out the festival.
